Google Play Protect- Harmful App Alert for OxygenOS 5.0.1 on OnePlus 3 and 3T Users!!!

Google Play Protect is warning Factory Mode app is a harmful app for OxygenOS 5.0.1 running OnePlus 3 and 3T devices. One Plus 3 and 3T devices were launched on June and November 2016 with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. As promised, OnePlus officially had rolled out Android 8.0 Oreo update for OnePlus 3 and 3T devices on last November. That update featured some new fabulous features and some few minor bugs as well. In order to make OnePlus 3 and 3T more stable, OnePlus launched OxygenOS 5.0.1 update on last December.

December security patch was same as included in December OxygenOS 5.0.1 update with a number of bugs fixed and added some features like added adaptive mode screen calibration, new Wi-Fi hotspot device manager, support for aptX HD and much more.

Other than these added new features and some dead bugs in Android Oreo running OxygenOS 5.0.1 OnePlus 3 and 3T devices, one new issue has been popped up. The issue is Google Play Protect is now warning OnePlus 3 and 3T OxygenOS 5.0.1 running devices that Factory Mode app is harmful for system protection and vulnerability.
Google Play Protect is asking users to uninstall the Factory Mode application. According to Google Play Protect the Factory Mode application is harmful for system protection and keeping it on their OnePlus 3 and 3T devices is not safe.

But the first thing to know is What is Factory Mode app? Basically it is an app like Engineer Mode and it is being use during the manufacturer of the phone in order to test the device’s various functionalities before they cross the production line.

In the middle of November, Factory Mode app was in controversy due to its ability to grant root access to OnePlus flagship smartphones. A vulnerability researcher was successful in order to gain root access to OnePlus flagship smartphones with the use of exploit in the Factory Mode app.

According to Google Play Protect:- Factory Mode application includes a code which is attempting to bypass the android security protections and it is vulnerable to system protection.

Apart from this, yet there are not any reports describing the harms from the Factory Mode app. So if you are an OnePlus 3/3T user and you are irritated from the constant annoying pop ups than you can simply uninstall this application from Device’s settings.
